Should deleted pages redirect to the homepage?
Only when the homepage is genuinely the best replacement. Usually a close topical match is safer.
Should redirects be 301 or 302?
Permanent migrations usually use 301 redirects. Temporary moves may use 302.
What is the biggest migration risk?
Leaving ranking URLs unmapped, redirecting too broadly, or changing canonicals and internal links inconsistently.
